Hi,

Well, it's been a very long time since I've posted but still manage

to check in every little while. This group has been invaluable to me,

thank-you.

Just a quick question on the DBB please.

My son was born almost a year ago with bilateral club feet. Doing

extremely well. He's in the DBB 16 hours a day and tolerates it

really well. He did not require the tenotomy as his heels have always

been very flexible. I have a question though regarding the shoes.

Ponseti Dr says to reduce angle to 40 degrees bilaterally. My

understanding is it should be 70 degrees for the duration to prevent

relapse. Am I completely wrong?

Thought I'd come to the experts for opinions/advice. :-)

Thank-you,

Helen

Hi Helen,

My son has bilateral clubfoot and did not require a tenotomy either.

He has been in his DBB shoes since mid-December and has one month

left of wearing them full time. His are set at 70 degrees as

prescribed by his doctor, noted in the book Clubfoot: Ponseti Method

and as mentioned in an email from Dr. Ponseti when I was trying to

verify that my doctor was indeed following protocol. I couldn't

imagine having Vinny's shoes set at 40 degrees. He still has the

habit of pulling his feet inward as soon as his shoes are off, I'm

afraid the turning might more likely lead to relapse if his feet

weren't turned to the full 70 degrees. I have been reassured, though

that him turning his feet in is more habit and stretching (like after

taking off high heels), they only turn when he turns them. Otherwise

his little feet stay turned out as if his shoes were still on!

Hello,

My son is 7 month old. BL clubfeet.

I have written couple of times to Dr. Ponseti about the angle. Our

Dr. put it first on 60 and now on 55- that was one one ago when he

saw that Osgri can move his feet 120 degrees outside. Both times I

wrote Dr. P and he wrote back to follow the protocol and put the

shoes on 70. Did Dr. Ponseti tell you to reduce the degrees? If so I

would do as he says, but it is your call of course.

Ask for the reason of this.

Best of luck.

Idit, Oshri's mom.
