Hi all,

My beautiful little girl was born on January 30th 7 lbs 4 oz. The

ultrasounds were correct and she has bilateral clubfeet. We spent

part of her first week in NICU for some breathing difficulties and

had her first set of cast put on at one week. Her feet are

correcting well and we will be getting her 4th set of cast put on

Friday. Her right foot is more flexible then her left and the doctor

thinks that she will have to have the tendon release. He says that

they usually do that at about 8 weeks. I am really worried about it

but we will deal with that when it comes. I'll try to put a picture

in the photo section. I hear her waking up so I better get going.

Good thing she is getting casted right away. Don't worry about the

tenotomy until the time comes. I spent weeks fretting about the

procedure (Vinnys first cast went on at 5 weeks old). There was

minimal flexibility at best in his right foot, but what do ya know...

by the 7/8th casts he started stretching (he had a total of 10 casts

mainly becaus he learned how to shatter the plaster before the week

was out). His doctor decided to do a couple more casts to see how

far the tendon would be willing to stretch. As of now Vinny has been

in his DBB shoes for almost 3 months and has come along beautifully.

I still worry about him needing the tenotomy if his foot slips back,

but I just make sure I stick to the shoe regiment as instructed to

hopefully prevent this from happening. But for now... we are

tenotomy free. Have faith and keep with the program!

Congratulations, , on your new baby girl. Don't worry about the tenotony.

If it happens, it is over very quickly and they recover quickly. Maybe she

won't need one.

Best of luck,

Many congrats on the birth of your little one! Take lots of

pictures (and of the feet - you'll be glad you did!) OH, but don't

get too carried away, be sure to get some face pics too! (I got a

little carried away with the feet pictures!)

As far as the tenotomy goes - don't over-worry about that. It will

go just fine, if needed. A good majority of Dr. Ponseti's patients

(I'm not good with exact numbers) need the procedure, but it's so

non-invasive, and the little ones tolerate it quite well - it's

really nothing to lose sleep over (you're probably already sleep

deprived enough as it is!)

Again, congrats!!!!!!!!!

, Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! What did you

name her?

I understand your apprehension about the tenotomy - I'm sure that we

all went through some degree of fear for our babies prior to the

procedure. You will do fine, as will your precious baby girl, I'm

sure!

Once again, congratulations!

,

I read your email with great interest. Our precious little girl was born on 2/2

and also, as expected, has bilateral club feet. However, she spent her time in

the NICU initially due to breathing difficulties. Are they looking in to any

global issues for your daughter that may or may not involve the club feet? Do

they know why she might have had breathing difficulties? Does she have any

other challenges?

My precious had breathing difficulties and has severe reflux in addition

to her club feet. She had a Nissen procedure done to stop the reflux and has a

g tube until she can get the 'suck, swallow, breathe' sequence down pat.
