There are two good things that I can think of about the Low Carb trend........I

think it's good that so many are lowering their cholesterol numbers by not

eating Trans Fats. The other good thing is that I am seeing more and more

menu's with fat/cals/fib/carbs etc listed and that is great for us on WW!!

Otherwise I am very tired of it!!

What is interesting is how all these food companies/restaurant chains are

cashing in on it!! How come Applebee's is the food chain (that I can think of)

that has a WW menu??

the phrase " low carb " ????

They had a blurb on the news the other night, where they were saying how

" everyone " was doing low carb now, so the specialty stores are popping up all

over the place.

yeah theres a low carb store around the corner from where I live. I guess w=

hat irritates me is that they sell food as " healthy " automatically because i=

ts low carb, when most of the time its something drowning in cheese and grea=

se...(don't get me wrong, if I didn't realize that eating steak and cheese w=

as bad for me, I'd be at the front of the 'low carb' line).

You know, I've really been working on limiting the amount of simple

carbs that I eat (but in no way reducing my overall carbiness or

doing anything remotely low carb because I need those carbs for

running) because I've noticed sugar has a real effect on my athletic

performance and mood. I had a bad habit of eating too many snacks

that consisted of nothing but sugar, and I was getting awful

headaches. However, the whole low carb craze really frustrates me

when I go to the grocery store to get my favorite 100% whole wheat

bread (2 slices for 1 point) and they've stopped carrying it so they

can carry some stupid low carb bread that is one point per slice.

I saw an article from yesterday on the skinny post daily that talked

about a diet summit this past weekend and how all the " diet doctors "

(Atkins people, Dr. Ornish, the Zone guys, the low-fat docs, etc.)

have agreed on certain things that people should all do to make their

diets more healthy (although there is still some disagreement on

others, like the carb debate). Those things included: lowering trans

fats, eating more F & Vs, eating more whole grains, physical exercise,

controling calories, increasing fiber, and replacing bad fats with

good fats. Well, you know, that's exactly what I do on WW!!!

By the way, my husband and I counted the number of ad spots for low

carb stuff during a thirty-minute tv show the other day...there were

six different ads that used the phrase.
