hi lisa - i hear your concerns and i would think that whoever is

doing the FUS should be able to answer those questions to your

satisfaction before you proceed. will you have a chance to meet with

the folks who are doing the study before you move ahead with it?

be " consiously sedated " . I hope it will be good! I had a few " bad

trips " when I was a teenager in the 70's, so now I'm a bit nervous

about taking drugs.

Conscious Sedation is great!!! It's given via IV and is usually some

drug like valium to calm you down and fentanyl to make you groggy. I

think it's the fentanyl that makes you forget what happens so while

you're awake and able to breathe on your own (you just have little

oxygen prongs in your nose for a little more oxygen) you won't

really " be there " . Kinda like a giant trip if you've taken drugs in

the past. However--at least this time there is someone monitoring

your vital signs!

The nice thing is that it does wear off quickly following the

procedure but at least you're relaxed and don't care while the

procedure is being done.

I've had it a few times--one time when I had wrist surgery, another

when I had a cyst removed from my finger and they gave me enough to

knock me out for about 4.5 minutes while they did a block on the

finger and then again when I had a UFE 2 years ago. Each time I was

able to get up (well--not after the UFE as I was on pain meds), get

dressed and go home and had lunch.

Best thing out!!! You don't get nausesated and in some cases--you

are permitted to drink something BEFORE the procedure intead of

fasting for hours on end.
