Guest guest Posted November 12, 2004 Report Share Posted November 12, 2004 Have you looked at some of the little hole-in-the-wall places around? Sometimes you can find some REALLY good stuff. Also every now and again I'll go to www.dwlz.com and take a look at some of the restaurants I've never been to and their point values. Armed with point information I feel like I can go in, enjoy a meal, and not worry about things. Also never underestimate the offerings at some of the nicer grocery stores. We have one that has awesome sandwiches with low-carb bread that is 2 slices for 1 point (I did the math). I can get a turkey on low carb wheat. They measure the turkey so I know it's 4 oz (I can remove some if I want), then I just get no mayo but all the veggies and mustard. This same place also has a great salad bar (pricey, though), sushi, vietnamese spring rolls (the ones that are just a raw wrapper, chicken, mango, rice noodles, mint, and cucumber), soups with the calorie information posted right above them, as well as the produce section. They have a little cafe area right in the store. I often suggest that for our book club meetings because there are lots of healthy options for me and lots of unhealthy options for everyone else. The problem that I currently have--though it will only be a problem for the next week or so--is that I'm in a very small town with just grocery store and only fast food joints. The options here are rather limited. I'm close enough to KC that I can grocery shop there on weekends, but just far enough away that it is inconvenient for casual shopping. That was primarily the basis for my earlier rant, though I probably should have been a little more specific about it. One of the biggest benefits of my impending move... my new boss is in complete and total support of me doing WW. (Last job situation was stressful and negative to say the least!) He's said that he'd keep WW-friendly food items in the fridge and give me time off to go to meetings if I decided to attend during the week. I really wish more would be supportive of everyone's health, regardless of weight. I was talking to our school supt. the other day and he said he tries to buy healthy snacks for meetings and people complain! Can you imagine? Your boss brings food to a meeting and you complain? As an added bonus... he's going to lease new office space in the new year and told me the other day that there is a Curves in the same complex. I'm not used to things working out so smoothly for me, but I think that these are all just signs that it was meant to be! It's funny... while at my last job, I would bring in WW friendly food on Food Days and not tell anyone. Everyone would eat it and all was well with the world. Tell someone it is a Weight Watchers recipe and they'd turn up their noses. (You should have seen everyone's reaction when they found out the Taco Soup I made once had chickpeas in it. Everyone was chowing down and talking about how great the soup was. Then someone said " Hey, what's this round-looking bean in here?
