What all does a TOD do?

Hi there,

A TOD (teacher of the deaf, also known as a hearing itinerent) is a teacher

who is trained to work with deaf/hoh children. There are special college

courses that they need to take in order to be certified as a TOD.

I think different TOD's work on different things depending on the skills of

the child. For this means language issues. These are not to be confused

with speech issues. has had her HI since starting preschool. Her HI

has worked on things like cueing (looking) at the speaker, sequencing, sentence

strucuring (helping her form good sentences), helping her to advocate for

herself and was even able to get her to put her own hearing aids in. She also

works on anything that comes up in the classroom that has trouble

grasping. Story problems in math and writing sentences are two big ones.

Even if your son doesn't need the services of a TOD I would think that he

should be monitored by one. I know there is a better term for that, but it

escapes me now.

I like the best description of a TOD that Jill already shared with you, a

TOD puts it in so the SLP can get it out.

and ask why not. G.B Shaw
