Guest guest
To all of our newest members out there....hello! I'm Debbie and I have two children. is 6, mainstreamed in first grade and is the only child in her school that wears hearing aids. We discovered her hearing loss when she was 2 1/2, although I knew that there was something " different " about a year before that. I self referred her to our early intervention program because she just wasn't speaking that much. She " talked all the time....just no one could understand her jargon. We use to call it " se " . Although I had started to voice my concerns to her ped when she was 18 months, he just kept reasuring me that all kids develop at different levels and to give it time. Thankfully someone at EI questioned if she had ever had her hearing tested and it was through there that she had her first hearing test. She has a moderate sensorinueral hearing loss in both ears and we believe that she was born with the loss. Because of the delay in her diagnosis, she had a rather large language delay. Today she is doing pretty well. She will talk to anyone who will listen to her. Sometimes it comes out in an unsual sentence structure, but she can be understood. She is in ballet and loves to draw. She wants to learn to play the piano, now if only we could figure out how to fit a piano in our house...lol. I think she may be learning on a keyboard for now. Anyways, this is really a great group. I was so happy when I found it shortly after we started this journey. There are no odd or strange questions and if you ever just need to vent...feel free to. We've all been there.
