Dr Saneto from Seattle Children's Hospital will be our special guest on

Monday Evening from 9 PM to 10 PM Eastern at the MDA Mito Chat. We anticipate

many participants and questions, thus we will use the following format. We

realize that the format is somewhat strict but this allows us to have order and

to make our guest comfortable. If you are coming to view the chat and not ask a

question - please log off and log back in as a " guest " . This will allow the

maximum number of people who have questions the opportunity. If you have asked a

question and it has been answered, please log off and log back in as a guest so

that others have the opportunity to enter the chat. The chat allows a certain

number of participants and when we exceed that number, no one else is allowed to

enter.

As you enter the room, you will be given a number which will be openly given on

the chat site. That number is sequential thus in the order you entered. When

your number comes up, you may ask one question and only one question will be

open for the doctor at a time. When he has completed answering the question the

next person in the sequential order will be allowed to post their question. You

will be notified by private message when it is your turn to ask your question

just prior to the time to post it. You might find it helpful to have pre-posted

the question in preparation for entering but be very careful not to hit the send

key until you have been given clearance to do so. Please post your question in

ALL CAPS as this will help Dr Saneto recognize each new question. In this case -

it will not be considered shouting. When our guest has completed answering the

question he will post a ? to let us know that he is ready for the next question

to be asked.

Please reserve this chat for questions to be asked of our guest only. It is a

very special gift of time and expertise that the guest is offering us and we

need to treat our guest with respect. If you wish to chat with someone in the

room, please go to the private chat and communicate.

Anyone who violates the instructions will receive a warning. If a second warning

is necessary, the person will lose their privilege to be in the chat and will be

removed. We hope that we don't find it necessary to do this.

The chat transcript will be available on the MDA website as soon as it has been

edited by Dr Saneto and the MDA Chat Administrator. Sometimes this takes a

considerable amount of time as these are very busy men. We ask for your patience

while this is being prepared. We are very happy you have joined us tonight and

hope you enjoy this special chat session. We also express our gratitude to Dr

Saneto for being with us tonight.

Dr. Saneto considers himself a late bloomer in the field of medicine, having

gotten his doctorate degree (PhD) in human genetics before his medical degree.

Receiving is doctorate degree from the University of Texas, he then switched

from genetics to developmental neurobiology and was an active researcher in this

field before going back to medical school. Graduating in three years from Des

Moines University, School of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Saneto went on to the

Cleveland Clinic Foundation and served his pediatric, pediatric neurology, and

pediatric epilepsy residency and fellowships. It was at the Cleveland Clinic

that he developed an interest in mitochondrial disease working under Drs. Bruce

Cohen and L. Hoppel. His interests were in pediatric epilepsy and

mitochondrial disease, and he has tried to intertwine the two disciplines. Dr.

Saneto is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Neurology at

Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center and University of Washington in

Seattle. He sees both adults and children, but his focus is in the pediatric age

group.
