Re: 2nd Band?

Hi ,

I do see your point about outgrowing the band and getting different

amounts of correction. here are some comments I would make:

-for DOCband they limit the time you can wear it, so by 16 weeks

you're done even if it fits (although most kids outgrow it sooner)

-for all bands there should be extra room where the head needs to

grow, but also the foam is carved out to adjust for growth. If there

is no more foam to carve out then you can't adjust it. The band

redirects growth to the flat area, but the exact shape of each band

(and kid's head) is different, so that they won't all be adjusted the

same, and even different orthos would adjust the band differently, so

some babies could run out of foam and therefore outgrow the band

before getting as much correction as another baby. For example my dd

had brachy - so the band tried to hold the width and direct the growth

to the back. However she still did get a slight increase in width, and

also not all the growth could be directed to the back. Her forehead

grew and the ortho removed foam from there, until there was no more.

You can't really redirect 100% of the growth to the target area, so

results will vary.

This makes sense to me, but may just sound confusing to the rest of

the world ;-)
