Some folks here have recommended nutritional

yeast as an occasional replacement for cheese. We get to add yeast back into ds’

diet already!!!!! But I know there are several brands of nutritional yeast, and

I though y’all might recommend a favorite?

Happy 4th to everyone. I hope

you saw fabulous fireworks!

Thanks for clarifying the flaky/gritty

difference. Looking forward to trying it—first on popcorn, definitely.

I have used Cal

as well, I think. But I don't think the brand matters

that much (although a gluten free label is nice) as long as you make

sure to get the fluffy flakes rather than the gritty granules- the

flakes have a more " cheesey " flavor and work better for a cheese

substitute. Though, the granules can be used in some recipes for good

flavor. Nutritional yeast is yummy, IMO, and full of vitamins, though

I've never been clear what it does or does not retain upon being

heated. To avoid this you can try fluffy nutritional yeast flakes on

popcorn (if not allergic) with a mix of melted butter/margarine and

tamari as a starter...

Also, as I understand it nutritional yeast is not harmful with those

with conditions like candida who react to regular baking yeast.
