Guest guest
Barbara, I have severe osteo as well. I can not take the common products like Fosomax, Actonel, etc because of GI reasons too. I was on the Miacalcin nasal spray for awhile but when I saw a metabolic bone disease specialist in Cleveland he pretty much laughed. He said it's just not affective at all. He is going to give me an IV treatment for my osteo. It's called Aredia (sp?) It's not actually approved for osteo but has been used and is very successful. It's a once a YEAR infusion that takes 20 mins. It builds bone. There is also another IV med for osteo and osteo genesis imperfecta that children use alot called Pamidronate. It has to be given more frequently like once every 3 months for the same effect. My nutritional status and weight have been a big concern so I have yet to recieve my bone treatment. My last bone density in Aug. was unchanged even with having taken the Miacalcin and calcium supplements.
Guest guest
, thks very much, this is great information. I'm very interested in the once-a-year IV treatment and will ask my PCP about it. Does anyone know if any of the osteo drugs can be taken through a j- tube? That would actually be simpler if it would not defeat the purpose. Maybe I should ask my tube-feeding group. B > Barbara, > > I have severe osteo as well.
