Don't worry about the million questions! That's what we're here

for!

wore the DOC Band 23 hours a day, with time off for

hygiene/bathing (and if we went to the pool). I believe that's

standard for most/all helmets, at least it is for the DOC and STAR

Bands. This lasted for 6 weeks before we finished treatment, which

I believe is somewhat quick.

had Torticollis which really affected the Plagio and made it

worse, faster. We tried to keep her off the back of her head from

the second we noticed even a slight flattening, but she slept on her

back at night until about 6 months of age when she started rolling

over and realized she liked to sleep on her tummy. And she was

really active and wouldn't stay on the non-flattened side if we

positioned her that way. So repositioning wasn't effective for us.

She's really a mover and a shaker now, so repo definitely wouldn't

work at this point!

I talked to her tech at CT and asked about regression when she

graduated last week. He told me it happens in less than 1% of

patients. Since 's a tummy sleeper now (even though we put her

down on her back) and she sits and rolls around a lot during the

day, I'm not worrying too much about it. Honestly, if she were

still a back sleeper, I might worry a little (but I'm a worrier by

nature!). If you were to start helmet therapy now, I bet your

son would be a lot more active by the time he graduated and you

wouldn't have to worry as much about how much time he spent on his

back. You might ask one of the moms on this board whose child

experienced regression and find out what the circumstances were.

Have you talked to your pediatrician about your concerns? Word of

advice...there are a lot of docs out there that don't really listen

to parents' concerns about plagio. If you are really concerned,

ask/demand a second opinion and referral to an orthotist or the CT

clinic. We got a referral from our ped to the pediatric plastic

surgeon (who we had to see before we could get a referral to an

orthotist/CT). He told us she was " perfect " . We demanded a

referral b/c he blew us off when we voiced our concerns. Both the

STAR Band orthotist and the CT tech said needed a helmet. My

sister had to go to the same specialist for a referral for her son's

plagio and the doc told her that it would round out on its own

and " even if it didn't, it would make for a good bar story

someday " . She demanded a referral as well and her son was casted

immediately for severe plagio. Needless to say, sometimes you

really have to advocate for your kiddo!!!
