Guest guest
Hi Cheryl I don't know. At 60% kidney function, you really shouldn't have swelling caused by the kidneys. Things change though. When a new symptom like that appears, you not only should but you MUST call your doctor. Let the doctor decide if it's important or not. Generally, the fluid overload related to renal insufficiency will tend to settle around the lungs at night when you're lying down (and maybe other places like the eyelids, abdomen, etc.), and during the day, as you walk and stand, etc., gravity will gradually force it down into your legs, and it will show as swelling on the feet and/or the ankles. There's a very simply physical exam any doctor can do to see to what extent a person has fluid overload. Puffiness is not an IgAN symptom. With good kidney function, swelling, if it's related to the IgAN, is actually because of heavier proteinuria. Later on, when the person has more advanced renal insufficiency, then it's because the kidneys just can't handle the fluid. Let us know what the doctor says. Some BP medications can cause swelling too. Pierre puffy eyes and feet > > > Hi everyone, > I had a question about swelling. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, How recently have you had your protein level checked? At 60% function, as Pierre said it should not be due to IgAN, but if for some reason your protein spill has increased edema does accompany a higher protein spill. It would be a good idea to get current labs just to make sure. puffy eyes and feet Hi everyone, I had a question about swelling. Every day when I wake up, my eye is puffy and then at night my eye is normal but the tops of my feet are puffy. I'm at 60% kidney function and I only see my neph once a year. I'm wondering if this new swelling is a sign that I've lost more function. I eat a low-salt diet and only have a small protein spill. Is this something to call the neph about or is " puffiness " just a normal part of igan? Is there any way to control the swelling? Thanks for any ideas.
