Guest guest
Dear , We really appreciate your prayers! Yesterday we had a family party, in honor of little Claire's Baptism. My older daughter and her husband, who leaves for Iraq and Afghanistan next week, were Claire's godparents. It was truly a bittersweet day. I spoke with my son-in-law's parents in depth, with whom Rose has become very close. The father told me how he escaped from China as the Communists were taking over. The country was i utter chaos, with much bloodshed. His uncle saved him, along with his cousins. They were all like sardines on the train--for days. But my son-in-law's father could find no room, and had to travel for hundreds of miles, through tunnels, with no food---clinging to the ROOF of the train. He never saw his family again. They died of starvation, because of the Red Chinese policy of food distribution. He told me sadly how much he hates war.... After earning engineering and law degrees in Taiwan, he came to the US, and lived with quite a few male roommates, and took a bus to his job at a factory in NJ. But he kept going to night school. He retired a few years ago as head librarian at a US university. Both he and his wife have steadily sent money back to China for years to pay school tuition for young cousins. However, they never boast of such things; my daughter told me about their very selfless lives. I told them that, over the centuries, it is brave men like their son who bring freedom, and who save freedom. It was a beautiful day..... Thank you again, . Sincerely, S.
