Guest guest
So here's how my week went...how was yours? Top Ten 10. Monday we went for a nice bike ride and saw a movie, " Open Water " and it skeeeeered me! 9. Tuesday I had a meeting at work and ironed out some issues with the Tommie Tech Team. Apparently some nimble brain downtown wanted to get rid of them (my intern class for advanced students) because they " mess everything up. " The truth is, they completed a total of 592 documented jobs last year and at least 200 undocumented jobs on campus fixing computers, maintaining computers, resetting passwords, etc. Maybe 1 time in 20 a student messes something up and the tech people downtown have to come down and spend 2 extra minutes fixing it. (We're talking putting in a wrong IP address or something.) So they choose to concentrate on the 1 mess up, forgetting that there were 19 other jobs for that 1 that they did NOT have to come out for. We got it worked out and I am SO glad that I had the foresight in the Spring to print out our job report and send it to the IT department because when my guy there went to bat for me, he had a BIG bat. Besides, they need to remember that the whole business of schools is teaching kids. Guess what? While we learn new things, we mess them up sometimes. We ALL do! I particularly remember a certain Network Administrator who forgot to plug back in the firewall last year and couldn't figure out why stuff was getting through. Guess we should get rid of her! She messed up! I also got to share some of my frustrations regarding communications. They like to say things like " Oh, if you disconnect the monitor from the tower it voids the warranty " and " We can't have you set up computers because we have to do something 'special' to each one. " (Pixie dust? Incantations I am not privy to?) I told Ken (IT director) that it offends me because I have just as much technical knowledge as they do and lying to me is just plain silly. If there is some reason they don't want us to do something, please tell me so I can communicate why. The " something special " turned out to be typing in a proxy server address, which all my kids know how to do and do well. Ironically when the auditor needed proof that all computers at our school were using the proxy to alleviate bandwidth issues, guess who they asked to do that? So that was good. 8. Wednesday I got my entire unit two written for Health, which included getting the framework for the semester set up. A very happy thing. 7. Wednesday night we saw the play Rent, which was very very good...although not quite the stunner I thought it would be. But still definitely a thumbs up. The performances were, for the most part, outstanding. 6. Sushi on Wednesday. Nuff said. 5. Thursday I got my eyes lasered! Woo hoo! Yes I intentionally went in, let them slice open my cornea, and do a Buck Rodgers on my lenses and guess what? It ROCKS! All day today I kept thinking " Wow! I'm not wearing glasses and I can see that! Wow! I'm not wearing contacts and I can see that! Wow! " 4. Wednesday I ran 13 miles! On purpose! Without stopping! 3. I can SEEEEEEE! 2. Today we went to see Kerry speak. Very excellent speaker and I do hope our next REAL president. 1. Even though I'm not supposed to work out heavily for a week, I did get in a 6 mile brisk walk tonight around Greenlake! No excuses here, for not working out! ~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~' Tory Klementsen, MCP A+ Career and Technology Educator www.teechur.com www.msteechur.com -The successful person will do the things that the unsuccessful person will not.
