Guest guest
You know, this controversy over when we eat was recently debunked. Some recent research I heard on CNN said it all boils down to this: calories input vs. calories expended. If the calories input exceed calories expended, no matter what time of day, we will gain weight. If the calories input are LESS than the calories expended, we will lose weight. It has been suggested that it is a mind trick to not eat past 6 PM because most people will cut their calories by as much as 1000 (amazing!) if they stop eating before 6 PM. Of course everyone is different, and I understand that. I find the new research interesting, because I have a friend (I know, anecdotal) who is quite thin (she wasn't always) and she eats a bowl of cereal (of all things) right before she goes to bed. She doesn't gain weight because that cereal is part of her daily allotment of calories. So, I suppose if we can find our own internal clock, eat for energy and not as a replacement for something else, we will get to our peak calorie burning performance. I eat most of my calories in the morning and at lunch, simply because I work out in the morning and I'm HUNGRY. OK, I'm off my soap box. Teres Re: Points Questions Good grief, you leader wouldn't like me! My bedtime snack is usually 8 points. (2 cups of milk, 1 pt worth of Nestle No Sugar Added Chocolate Milk and some kind of bread item--love my carbs!) I try NOT to follow a set rule. I go by what my body tells me. Some mornings I wake up and could eat the house, so I have a heavy breakfast. Usually I have 1 pt worth of bran flakes, 1 pt worth of Fiber One and 2 pts worth of milk. That's it for breakfast, then a fruit for a snack midmorning. I listen to my body and it tells me what I need, when I need it. (I choose to do 3 servings of milk/calcium per day) I usually eat a light lunch too, 4-6 points. Have lots of salad, because it's free. If I'm ravenous, though, I eat more! Typically, I save my points for dinner and night. That's when I'm hungry, that's when I want to eat. The beauty of Weight Watchers is we can make the program work for us. This works for me, but it wouldn't work for others. I think the only thing you need to watch out for is keeping your blood sugar level. And that's by eating frequently throughout the day in small quantities. L Lyn Points Questions Is there a minimum number of points you should be eating for breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? My WW leader gave us a breakdown of 6,7,7 but overall not to save too many points for late at night. Also when do you eat your last meal? I workout first thing in the morning and always have a 2-4 point breakfast and then a 6-8 point lunch and dinner and snack through out the day. My last meal is no finished by 7pm. Guest guest
I've always eaten before bed, often IN bed as I read. In fact I'd say a full 1/3 of my calories are eaten after dinner on some days. I lost regularly an average of 2 pounds a week. I've maintained over a 100 pound weight loss. It isn't important when you eat. It's more important that you burn more calories than you take in. > Re: Points Questions > > > Good grief, you leader wouldn't like me! > > My bedtime snack is usually 8 points.
