Guest guest
April, I definitely agree with you that today's technology (including time spent in front of this dern computer!!) contributes to our tendency to be lazier, but it is NOT the cause. By attributing blame to the technology, we are doing what society is so prone to do today...put blame on anyone and anything other than ourselves. We need to be held accountable for our own decisions, our own choices. We ARE accountable! We are responsible. It seems pretty clear to me! Guest guest
Is Technology the Cause of America's Weight Gain? My Answer: YES, I believe to some extent that all the television, computers, video games, etc is a big cause for the weight gain. Years ago kids were always outside running around and playing, now a lot of them sit inside and don't ever move, especially during the summer when they don't have PE class. I also believe that it is there own fault. People should know that they must move to be healthy and they should find things to keep the kids moving. I know mine our always outside, especially during the summer because they practically live in our pool. What about you? Maureen
Guest guest
I totally agree with you!! I agree that no one is forced to sit around and do nothing, just like they are not forced to go to Mcs and supersize a big mac, fries, and coke. I do believe that if there was not all the technology (television variety, computers, video games, even cars) there is today that people would be doing healthier things though. Guest guest
I wholeheartedly disagree, but respectfully. I understand your viewpoint, but my problem with it, is as long as we blame something else or someone else for our problems (weight gain, in this case) we will never face it. We live in a world of choices, and when we make bad choices, bad things happen. No one else shoves the food in our mouths, no one else tells us to sit and watch endless TV. But, when we take charge of our lives and decisions, and we realize our life is out of balance, we begin the process of taking ownership of our decisions. We then start the journey to a better life. Then we need discipline, patience with ourselves and practice. Discipline to get back on the good journey when we veer from our path, and patience with the process. Practice, practice, practice every day. That makes the journey complete. Question of the day 6/29 Is Technology the Cause of America's Weight Gain? Guest guest
> > Is Technology the Cause of America's Weight Gain? > I guess I'll say no, although I do think modern technology and conviences make it easier to be couch potatoes, but overall I would say it doesn't " cause " society's weight gain. I think eating too much and not making time for intentional exercise it the real culprit. I am very active and have reached my WW goal, even though I often like to watch tv, play on the computer, drive my car, etc. I agree we (as a society) are less active than we used to be (meaning we don't walk everywhere and we don't push huge plows through our gardens), therefore we have to counteract that with normal portion sizes, eating healthy foods, and making sure to get adequate amounts of exercise. Guest guest
I would say technology of food preparation more than " not moving " is a factor in obesity. I know several large people who move (exercise) daily - one of them an aerobics instructor who weighs 240 lbs despite 8 vigarous aerobics classes a week. Moving may contribute but it seems the deceptive calorie content of today's foods which is a fooler and why when followed, WW points is so highly effective at weight control...
