My first PICC line was fine, but the second one hurt from the

beginning. I was in the hospital at the time, so the IV team was

checking it regularly. The second or third day I did develop redness

and swelling up the arm. As soon as I noticed that, they pulled it

immediately. They told me to keep a heating pad on it to aid healing

and it cleared up in a week or so. For very minor redness around the

site, the IV team would not pull a tube but would recommend a

heating pad. Sometimes this worked. They told me the line can

irritate the vein and that redness doesn't always mean bacterial or

fungal infection.

I hope someone can look at his arm and evaluate it. Their expert

eyes could sometimes see a problem developing before I could see it.
