Guest guest
Hi All; It has been a busy week trying to stay on program, and get all my exercise in each day. I got my 16 weeks charm Wednesday, and lost .8 of a pound. One of the members said recently that when you exercise it is easier to eat right, than when you don't, or words to that effect. That is so true. I signed up for the Presidents Challenge this past Monday, and I log in my activities each day. The challenge is to get us all to move more each day, and strive to walk 10,000 steps each day. That's 5 miles. Until I got a pedometer, I couldn't imagine I could do 10,000 steps a day. It says the average person does between 2000 and 3000 steps each day normally. It also said a person can take 1200 steps in 10 minutes. Mainly, my days have been in the 3000 to 4500 range, except one day in the garden this week, that was 5235 steps. Well, today, I worked in the garden, did some needed housework, and then, after lunch, my husband and I drove to a new park near here that we had never walked before. We didn't know a lot about it. It was a challenge, more than I thought it would be, but, I said why not...lets do it. It turned out to be more in line with serious hiking trails, than leisurely walking trails, and oh, my, the last 15 miniutes were straight up, and rugged. Boy, that got the ole heart pumping, and I am here to say we did it and lived to tell it. OK, I know it is bragging...but I am 67 years old (my husband is 70) and we each did 10,000 steps today. Good gosh, I can't believe we did it! We celebrated by going out to dinner and getting fish, and a salad. Woops...I ate 2 hush puppies for 4 points. I hope that didn't spoil all the good. I really enjoy reading the posts, so much, and just wanted to share this. Happy Sunday everyone. Pat

Guest guest
I don't think there is a " real " bonus for being a group, it is just a way to get a group excited about doing it. Guest guest
Hi Maureen; I am so proud of you in winning the Bronze Medal. How much did you do to earn the Bronze Medal? How do I go about getting my medal? The stuff I printed out wasn't too clear. I would like to get one of the t-shirts, too. But I think we have to purchase those. Yes, it is really a great motivating plan. I am so happy about it. It helps to compete with my husband, too. He says it is the other way around. Pat The Presidents Challenge: is any one it? Guest guest
Thanks Pat! I earned 20,000 points to earn a bronze medal. You have to order the medals and t-shirts, and yes they do cost. The medals are $5 and the t-shirts are $8.50. They also have lapel pins, certificates and ribbons that you can order. I think I might also order one of the t-shirts, but I want to wait and see how far I can get. Here is the page for the awards: https://www.presidentschallenge.org/order_center/subcategory.aspx?catid=5 & catnam\ e=Awards%20 & subcatname=Presidential%20Champions Here is the webpage for ordering. https://www.presidentschallenge.org/order_center/help.aspx Hope that helps. Guest guest
Hi Maureen; Thanks for the information about medals, etc. 20,000 points! That's wonderful. WTG, Maureen. The cost is small, thank goodness. I am going to keep on charging ahead, and see where I can go. This is fun...watching the minutes add up, and me getting some very good exercise in the challenge. Guest guest
I am excited about this group. I just joined and found out about the President's Challenge. I joined that website today to track my exercise activity, which hopefully will help to keep me motivated. Looking forward to learning more ! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I think it would add another dimension to our group. If there are a few more people interested, we should go ahead and form it. I am interested in administering it, I looked at what is required, and it isn't much. I'm thinking 5 people could be a group. Any takers?
