Hello all:

I'm going to the YMCA tonight. We've already gone through their 12

week fitness starter program, and it wasn't very helpful to say the

least. Can anyone give me some ideas on a good beginners' workout

system at the Y, that perhaps you started out with yourself?

Thanks so much...

Never been there. I know Tory goes there, not sure if she'll get on before you

go though.

I started with a personal trainer, which was free. She set us up with

cardio and weights.

20 min on the eliptical or the treadmill

20 min on the Cybex (weight) machines

10 min stretching

I think you should go in and do some of the things that feel comfortable

to you and just watch the other people. That's what I did. Then after

I'd watched for awhile I'd try the machine myself.

There are also LOTS of classes you can try. Really take full advantage

of that stuff. I never thought I'd enjoy step aerobics, but now I do it

three times a week. That's what I love about the Y. There is so MUCH you

can try. Definitely stick within your comfort zone at first, but after

awhile start challenging yourself to just give new things a try. You

might find something that you LOVE!

That sounds great. We live like a mile down the street from the

brand new Sherwood Oregon Y, it is a really nice facility, and we've

been members from the get-go. Now that I'm getting serious about WW

and not just " playing house " , I'm going to take advantage of it.

Thanks!!

Hey Tory, one question for you...

Do you remember how many times a week you started out with? I want

to be able to stick with something. Maybe 3-4 times a week?

Thanks!!
