Guest guest
We had a rainy Memorial Day here in NJ. Didn't stop us from heading to my sister's for a BBQ. We also had out-of-town guests (my buddy and his girlfriend) all weekend - so they came along with us. Needless to say, it was a challenging weekend, but I came through it OK. I actually got a bunch of activity in over the weekend - an early morning 14 mile bike ride on Saturday, bith a 2.4 mile run and a 10.7 mile bike ride on Sunday, and another 2.5 mile run on Sunday. While my friends were here we did a lot of healthy grilling - grilled veggie sandwiches, salmon, chicken w/ salads, corn, and other veggies - so I did well Saturday & Sunday - using a couple of my earned APs each of those days - but no FP's. Monday at the BBQ, I was not in control of the menu - so it was harder - I had eaten 12 points heading into the BBQ, just to make sure I wasn't famished when I got there. The BBQ was inside due to the rain. (well, the BBQ was outside in the rain - but the eating was inside :-)). I stuck with one BBQ chicken breast and one Reduced-Fat Turkey Hotdog, lots of Salad, a low-fat Blueberry Muffin (2 points), 2 cups of fresh fruit salad, and 2 Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies ( 2 Points). I wound up the day using my 4.5 earned APs + 3 FP's So, I did well. Next Challenge: the Yankee game on Thursday - oh, those ballpark hotdogs :-) Best, Mitch

I was so frustrated with the BBQ's I attended (we had one each of the 3 days too! *sigh*) The first one had had hamburgers that were *filled* with cheese - choice of Blue Cheese or Cheddar. The second had italian sausages smothered in sauce and mozzerella cheese. And day three was ribs. Not a single place had a veggie tray, fresh fruit or salad in site. Oh sure, they had store bought coleslaw and potato salads, creamy pasta salads and tons of sinful appetizers and deserts. It was really awful for someone trying to eat healthfully. Do you know the one house didn't even have diet soda????? I sent my dh to the corner gas station to get me a liter (I can't drink tap water and had finished my big old water bottle at that point)! My host's comment? Oh, I figured everyone would just drink beer and wine. *sigh* See, and I don't get that. I always try to have -at minimum- a veggie tray, a garden salad, and fresh fruit for those who are watching what they eat, even back when I didn't care what I ate. Ah well. I tried to eat small portions and didn't 'chow' on anything and totally skipped dessert, so we'll see what happens today at weigh in. I'm a tiny bit bloated but I'll be happy if I just didn't gain. I hate when I am not in control of the menu.
