Guest guest Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 The comment about small rewards brought something to mind--kind of an " AHA " moment I had this week. DD was home for the holidays and loves to shop, but is a poor broke graduate student who lives in a teeny tiny town. So, the day before she left, I took her to the Asheville Mall to go perfume shopping. She was ready to find a new scent, and I decided I was, also. (We were both successful, I might add.) Ordinarily I HATE shopping--do as much of it online as possible--and for the last decade or so, have bought most of my clothes from Wal- Mart. I figured I didn't deserve anything nicer because I was so OBESE. Besides, I've always bought clothes to cover me up, and had to settle for whatever I could find in my size, whether or not I liked it. But DD was so proud of the 35 lbs I've lost, she made me go around Dillard's and figure out what I like and don't like in clothing. Next Christmas, we have a date to go " buying " , because I hope to be near my final goal. It will be a whole new experience for me-- wearing clothes I like, and that will reflect MY tastes and not what manufacturers think fat people should wear. For now, I will continue to buy clothes at Wal-Mart, not to cover myself up, but with the knowledge that these are only temporary, and I'll be buying the really nice things later. with an A Quote
Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 , I completely understand about not spending any more money on yourself as absolutely necessary. I do this very same thing. I too, am looking forward to shopping for clothing that I LOVE, and not just because it is " cheap " and doesn't make me look horrible. I am now in a size 16 ~ Have been this for about 2 months ~ I no longer feel thin (was alot bigger before SBD) and am looking forward to buying a new, smaller size ~ hopefully, very soon ~ My joke (is it really a joke, though), is that I am going from " , the tentmakers clothing line " towards " 's Secrect " . I am so looking forward to going into brand name stores with the intent to shop for me... Continued success to you!!! (and to me...)
