Thank you !!! I have added Vitalady's website to my favorites

and I am looking at ordering the samples right now. What

is 'distal'? I know that I should know that. But then I will ask

any question even if I think it is stupid.

My dietician said to get 40-70 grams of protein a day after surgery,

and gave a list of things that I should ONLY be eating.. This

doesn't include shakes. I know it is a newer program, but should I

look at shakes? I don't want to go against what they are telling me,

but I want to heal quickly and get back to work etc....

And NO MRP's in sight, anywhere. Some do use them, but I do not think they're

appropriate for us. They're made for an athlete who needs to get more calories,

more meals than he can realistically get in food. That would not be us.

It's easy to find one that fits the 30/6 rule once you open the right door. LOL!

Well, I hope the NEXT time you say your jeans don't fit, it's cuz they're

sliding down your backside! LOL!

I was told that Lap was best by a lot of people.. Less invasive.

But then I have heard that if they can't do it by Lap you could come

out of surgery with open anyway...

protein for us. Maybe, maybe not. That's a gamble. In protein shakes,

you want somethign that mixes with water, has appx 30g in a

Ok.. No Bars..(The ones I tried taste YUCKY). So am I looking at

carbs or sugar? The exact ready to drink shake they recommended for

me is the " EAS AdvantEdge Carb conrol shake " 15g of protein, 5g of

carbs, no sugar. But of course it is 4 servings per container of

11oz. I am not sure that I am ever going to get the numbers down..:(

Hi, Sophia!

If you look at the list the doctor gave you of things you

can eat, and the amount of protein you need to have, and

consider the fact that your body no longer is absorbing

protein, vitamins and minerals they way it did pre-op, I

think it will be pretty clear that you'll NEED to take

protein drinks. When he says 40-70g of protein, ask him how

much of the protein you get in food you are absorbing....

That's why we need drinks - we are not absorbing but maybe

half of the protein we eat, and of course with teeny tiny

tummies, we're not eating enough to provide 40-70g.... Your

doctor is a surgeon, not a dietitian specializing in

post-WLS nutrition. Same with your family doctor!

Cheers!

Sharon in D.C.

, something you said I've never heard before.....

" Proximal means less malabsorption, less vites, sometimes

recommendations of zero protein except from food. "

What do you mean about the recommendations for zero protein

except from food.... Are you saying that proximals should

not supplement with protein?

I read it that some docs do not recommend protein for proximals.

There was a time when I didn't think prox needed more than a coupla multis.

Boy, was I wrong. Now, they just think I'm crazy.

Dear Sophia,

I live in the very center of Kempsville section of Va. Beach.

Princess Anne is not very far from me.. about 10 minutes. :)

We'll get together if you come down/up this way, okay...?

Love,
