A Few Queries

Hi everyone!

Well, I have noticed everyone saying the list is quiet, so I've decided

to ask a few questions.

1. How long did you stay on the liquid/pureed diet for after op? My

doc says 4-6 weeks, but is there anything wrong with sort of, pureeing

it in your mouth? It is a bit embarrassing if your out and have to ask

for your meal pureed!!

2. What difference do you notice after the first adjustment? Mine is

next Friday (3 1/2 weeks after op).

3. When you start eating " normal " food again, can you eat anything?

(obviously not high fat things).

But normal meals, just smaller sizes?

BTW, yesterday was Australia Day and last night we went to our local

park which is situated on a high hill and had a picnic, then watched the

fireworks. Each year I say I'm not going again cos they get a bit

so-so, but this year they were just beautiful. Even the kids were

entranced. the fireworks in Perth are held on the Swan River and from

tall buildings in the city. It is just such a spectacular back drop, it

makes you proud.

OK, so maybe we'll get some more mail going here guys, it's no fun when

theres nothing to read.

BTW, congrats so the ones who had messaged lately their big losses.

HURRAY!!! Thats what we all want to hear, that it CAN be done. Also,

good on you Jo for breaking that plateau!! Keep it up!

BTWW, I have now lost 7kgs, today is 2 weeks post op. I have slowed

down quite a lot. Will it speed up again when I have my adjustment??

Hugs,

Aly

Hi Aly,

Sorry if I haven't replied to your questions first. I am one of those who

think that we are all different, have different stories, different bodies,

etc. and that it's hard to compare. Nevertheless, I must admit that I had

those questions too, before and just after the surgery. Short memory

.... :-)

1. On my doctor's advice, I have stayed on liquid food during two weeks ,

and then two more weeks on pureed food. I think that it's worth it

staying longer on liquid/pureed food. Firstly, because you can lose more

just after the surgery, and it's good motivation, and also, it sounds

logical that the band has better chances to fit well. (Sorry for my bad

English, I hope that you understand my meaning). Because of staying home

so much due to my back problem, I can't tell you whether it's really

embarrassing to go to the restaurant and ask for pureed food. You can

still just have a soup, or even just drink something, and if needed, you can

eat a yoghourt before joining your friends ... Don't worry too much

about it: you can't compare your hunger before and after the surgery.

2. I almost didn't see any difference after the first adjustment, and it

was rather big after the second one. Finally food went through really

slowly and then I could feel that the band was working very well.

Unfortunately, it never stays the same. Here either, you can't

compare. I've had a few adjustments, and they were never the same. I

had to re-adjust only two weeks after the third adjustment, because it

didn't work at all. We also thought that my band had a leaking. The 5th

(fifth !!!???!!!) one is the better I've had so far. It was on Jan 11.

Since then, I can eat, but not everything and very very slowly.

Nevertheless, I've been on a plateau for weeks now, even after the

adjustment ... You see ---> not so easy to talk about it. :-)

3. Yes, you should be able to eat everything, but in smaller sizes and

much slower. Maybe not just after the adjustment, but later on. Rice

and bread are hard to go through. It seems that meat is a problem too, but

I almost never eat meat, so ... My doctor told me that I wouldn't be able

to eat salad anymore, and I'm pretty happy that I never had a problem eating

salad.

Regarding the slow down of weight loss: don't worry. We all have

plateaus. They sometimes last long, but the weight loss will always start

again. As I said before, my last plateau didn't move, even with an

adjustment ... :-( But I know that one day I will see my weight go

down again so I'm not too concerned about it. And congratulations for

your first 7 kg less. Great start !!!

Lots of love,
