Hi Carol...

thyroid...You ned FT3 and FT4 tests plus TSH..Ranges for TSH have

been altered by the AMA tell your lab they need to update range

shoud be 0.5-2.5..if you feel hypo and it is obvious lt in your

family you will be hypo. No such thing as 'normal' or 'in range'

with hypo.your antibody level also points to autoimmunity.

If you are on medications that can alter thyroid blood tests and

makes it even more important that your doc. goes on

signs/symptoms..kidney involvement with mito. also 'throws' thyroid

tests..What is your basal temp. and pulse rate ?

FT4 should be in the top of your labs ranges ,certainly no lower

than the upper quartile..it doesn't matter if it is even slightly

over range...FT3 should always be in the mid to upper quartile..T3

is vital to the mitochondria..if you are low on T4 you will not be

able to convert and supply enough T3 for cell functioning.

Incorrect thyroid functioning always has a knock on effect on the

Adrenals, they function on the feed back system...hyper/hypo both

can muck up adrenal function as can Mito. ..I assume you had a full

adrenal testing done as part of your mito. if not may be worth

getting it done......

esterogen etc, testosterone, DHEA, Aldosterone, renin, ACTH stim

test, cholestral etc. The free random cortisol test is a waste of

space and money unless you are having a bigtime adrenal crash. Many

Mito's have been found to have adrenal insufficiency ..may be the

mito. but there again it may be the thyroid that needs

treating..Some mito. kids the first presentation has been autoimmune

s which certainly points to adrenal function tests on a

regular basis being possibly vital in Mito.

Gillian, is this a newer update for the range, than this

In November 2002, AACE published revised guidelines that narrowed the

range for normal thyroid function from the old TSH of 0.5 mIU/L to

5.0 mIU/L, to 0.3 mIU/L to 3.0 mIU/L.
