Tiernan got his helmet yesterday, so I can understand the adjustment you're going through right now. I wish I had some advice on how to help your little one like it more, but I really don't. Have you let him hold it and look at it during the "off" time? Tiernan has been very curious about this thing I"m sticking on his head, and since he's got quite a bit of off time for the next few days, I've been letting him hold and play with it. As far as sleeping, I put a memory foam topper on top of his mattress. That was recommended by some of the other parents on the group, and it seems to be helping. Tiernan is taking a nap right now with the helmet on, and he's been out for close to two hours now. I think the foam is helping a lot. It even seemed to help with his night sleeping last night (no band), b/c instead of waking three times like he has been, he only got up once. I wish I had put it in his crib a long time

ago! I am having a hard time adjusting to not being able to cuddle his naked head, too, but I keep reminding myself that it is temporary. Once he starts wearing it 23 hours a day, I am thinking about dividing his hour off into half an hour in the am and half an hour at night. That way I can cuddle him when he first wakes up and when he's getting bath and ready for bed. Hopefully he'll start looking like my baby again, and things will be okay. Today is our first "outting" with him b/c he has to go to pt and the chiro. I am anxious to see how it goes. Anyway, we'll go through this together. It'll be nice to have someone exactly where we are at the same time. hello. thank you SO much for the support and advice.

i will adopt your idea of splitting up the hour. that's a great idea!

MAson sleeps on a crib wedge as it is for his acid reflex. I wonder

if that will be okay?

Hey - congrat's on the 2 hour nap! That's wonderful!!@!!

thank you again for the advice and support. :)

You can find Twin-size memory foam at Target. I see it on sale quite often for $40.

FYI - When my son started his STARband I also adopted the 1/2 hour

twice a day routine (since I work full time and it was easier to get

in two 1/2 hour sessions) and I thought I was 'cheating', but when

we got his DOCband, that is actually the schedule they recommended!

Good luck!

Hi , our ortho said to wear it a min of 20 hours a day but 23 was

prefered. once you get used to it you don't want to miss any chance of

correction, so you are motivated to do all 23. also lots of babies

(including mine) find their head is itchy when you take the band off

for that hour - so they you have to keep them from scratching

themselves. after a while it seems easier to leave it on.

i would take it off for the initial introductions, then put it on once

you've had a chance to explain it. of course you can leave it on the

whole time, but i understand that you want them to see the baby first,

not just wonder " what is he wearing THAT for? " .

Just wanted to add - we have not done the memory foam, but in

reference to whether it would be " safe " with all the SIDS

stuff....I'm pretty confident memory foam is just fine because we

had one of those " inclined to sleep " sleep positioners in the

beginning (which probably didn't help the brachy him being inclined

and all but hey) and it seems like the pad on that is made of memory

foam too! So if a baby product is made with memory foam and it's on

the market, I'd assume memory foam doesn't increase suffocation

risk - am I right? Besides....the babies in question here seem a

bit older and able to rotate if needed.

I don't see why not. I don't think it would be BAD anyway. I don't know how it will help his comfort level.... you'll just have to try and see I guess. Let us know how it works out. Well, yesterday was mason's first day in his helmet. He's not a big

fan of us putting it on and taking it off. We are trying to make it

a " fun " experience by clapping and smiling alot before we put it on.

Plus, we are letting him play with a little before we out it on as

well. HE took 2 naps in it yesterday and they went REAL well. I was

shocked! I just got him down for another nap in his helmet, so I

will update you on how it goes. Tonight will be his first night in

the helemt. We have an appointment to day at 1:30 for adjustments.

Oh - sleeping on the wedge has worked thus far. Yeah! :)

Again- thanks for all the advice. :) I am going to ask Dr. Darm if

it's alright if we can take him out of it every once in awhile to

cuddle his sweet little head.

Thanks , i am really mainly concerned with one family member in particular so I'll just work around those visits (it's a long story!) .  I suppose it all depends on how he reacts to wearing the helmet as well.
