40something ladies: Hysterectomy, Myomectomy or UAE?

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with 4 fibroids in my uterus, one the size of

an orange, and my uterus has swollen to the size of a 4 month

pregnancy. I have been to 2 doctors, my regular gyno and an RE in

the Houston area. My regular gyno wanted me to have a hysterectomy,

leaving my ovaries intact, since my kids were grown and I was told I

was now too old to have more kids anyway. That is the only option I

was offered. I learned about myomectomy and UAE on my own through

the internet and this group.

I then contacted an R.E. in the Houston area. I really liked him,

but he felt my best option was hysterectomy, but would do a

myomectomy if that's what I really wanted. He told me my uterus

would be " mush " after a myomectomy, and that adhesions would become

a problem after surgery.

I now have a 3rd appt with another RE in Austin TX that I found out

about through this group to get another opinion.

The first two doctors are on my insurance plan, the 3rd one in

Austin is not -- but I'm going anyway. To make things worse, my own

mother recently found out she has uterine cancer and she will be

having a hysterectomy today.

I was just wondering what kind of experiences/successes the 40

something ladies of this group have had with the above procedures?

Are we all being offered hysterectomies because of our age?
