Guest guest
, I just posted a correction to my earlier post. The actual treatment that my two children have had is called Osteopathic Manual Practice - *not* Cranial Sacral Therapy. I'm so sorry to have posted bad info - I tend to call his pt visits " cranial therapy " but the technical term is actually different. The physical therapists who treat my children were trained at the Canadian College of Osteopathy. It's a 5 year program. The college has a web site (http://www.osteopathiecollege.com/) but a quick scan didn't show any way to locate graduates. According to our pt, there aren't very many graduates of this program in the US. Perhaps you could contact the college directly to ask about US practicioners. Another related or similar therapy is called Cranial Sacral Therapy. I believe they use different techniques, but with the same goals in mind. Since our pt was not trained in this technique, she couldn't really comment as to if one or the other was more effective. Therapists using this technique are trained thru The Upledger Institute (web site www.upledger.com) Their website does have a link to find a practicioner and even indicates what courses the therapists have taken. If you find a therapist practicing either of these, it is *very* important to ask if they have experience with children. My son was about 10 months old at his first cranial therapy (Osteopathic Manual Practice) appointment and is 15 mo now. (At 10 months his adjusted age was 7 1/2 months - he was 2 1/2 months premature) We went about every two weeks for the past 5 mo and are dropping down to once a month now. We'll probably only go another month or two - he is now maintaining his progress from appointment to appointment. (We also took his twin sister in for treatment for a couple of months, but she never had any facial assym.) Hope this helps. Sorry again about mixing up the terms. I wish there was a way to edit my earlier post... Allyson
