Guest guest
Sonja, Thanks for your helpful overview. Could you elaborate on the problems caused by a Hysterectomy? I am 40 with no kids and my ObGyn is recommending a laparoscopic hysterectomy due to a variety of things I've got going on: an anechoic (sp?) ovarian cyst with a Hydrosalpinx, one 19 mm. submucosal fibroid, plus a 12 mm and 23 mm intramural fibroid. The hysterectomy would be to alleviate the killer cramps I get up to 2+ weeks out of the month. Fortunately I do not have heavy bleeding. He said I can wait try to wait out the pain and not have a hysterectomy, but that in time even the pain killers won't cut it. I've already seen this to be true w/ the mega doses of Aleve that I take. Vioxx does nothing for the pain. And even though I'd like children, I have never gotten pregnant and am no longer a candidate for IVF according to my RE and I would not pursue donor eggs. In the hysterectomy they would remove my uterus and the ovary w/ the cyst and Hydrosalpinx. He said the remaining ovary would effectively double it's hormonal output to compensate for the removed ovary and that menopause would run it's natural course. I don't want a hysterectomy however it does become a quality of life issue when I have such bad cramps. What are the after effects of this type of hysterectomy? D. Re: concerned husband All fibroids can cause pain. But not all fibroids will alter a woman's menstrual flow. It is important to ask about which type your wife has as well as which tests she needs to have to find their location.
