Guest guest
Barb, BMW, and other interested parties, Sometimes, you don't have to drop your good humor at the door of the doc's office, but you DO have to go prepared. Each time I have had to change docs for any reason, I take a sample of my artwork, writing, and one of the awards I got as adoptive Parent of the year...once upon a time, and I hand that with my medical history, drug list, and allergies list to the new doc. I expect that person to spend some time with me to go over my history, ask about my current referral or complaint, and to at least glance at my personal material. I want them to know, and I'm very verbal about this, that I HAD a full and energetic life, that I HAVE children still depending on me, that I AM NOT going to let this disease defeat me, and that I am a PERSON, not a file number. If the doc is disinterested or rude, I say goodbye, and don't let the door hit me in the backside on my way out. If they listen, ask intelligent questions, and do not insist that I do everything THEIR way from the gitgo, THEN we might form a working relationship. As you can see, I take nothing for granted. I've learned this the hard way. LOL has lots of helpful hints on putting together a current drug list, an allergy list, and a to-the- point medical history for your doc and for any ER visits. I carry all that in my wallet and wear a Medic-Alert necklace, too. I like to cover all my bets. Hope that is helpful for you all. Loving hugs, MM
