I try not to use any canned food at all, including juices. Maalox, which I used for heartburn in all my pregnancies, has aluminum. We were advised to try and get rid of this cup, along with the pacifier, as soon as possible. Of course can't sip a straw yet so this may take alittle while! Dawn Re: Juice Boxes Debbie-We only use the Tupperware cups. I love them. And yes, you can use anystraw with them which seems more sanitary. You might want to considerphasing out the sippy cups completely. They are very bad for speech as arejuice boxes though I have to admit we were using those. You should probablyget rid of all the baby type cups that allow the children to continue to sucklike babies. (From what I understand sucking evolves as the children getolder) You should also work on having the child drink from a cup without astraw. We were recently at a children's birthday party at a kid's partyplace and there were no straws provided for the drinks. The kids weredrinking out of paper cups. What a relief that was fine and hasmastered this skill (as silly as it sounds) and did not stick out with herbaby cup when it wasn't necessary that she use one.Barb<< Thanks...I'll check it out...Do you use these with ? Guest guest Posted February 23, 2001 Report Share Posted February 23, 2001 that the sippy cups don't let the tongue muscle strengthen(sp?). my son has verbal apraxia in addition to autism..i had him in a speech program.at the time he didn't speak at 3 years old nor blow bubbles, drink from a straw..etc they got him to use those blow pens in speech therapy after a few sessions leaning how to blow through them..he was drinking from a straw, blowing bubbles and he started to speak..now at 3.5 i can't stop him from talking!! give it a shot.. Guest guest Posted February 23, 2001 Report Share Posted February 23, 2001 that the sippy cups don't let the tongue muscle strengthen(sp?). my son has verbal apraxia in addition to autism..i had him in a speech program.at the time he didn't speak at 3 years old nor blow bubbles, drink from a straw..etc they got him to use those blow pens in speech therapy after a few sessions leaning how to blow through them..he was drinking from a straw, blowing bubbles and he started to speak..now at 3.5 i can't stop him from talking!! give it a shot.. First the diagnosis, then starting the ABA program, then wondering if he will speak!
