Putter is the same way. He loved his bath for years. Now he is iffy, often

saying " No! " when I suggest it. If it hasn't been too long and he hasn't

done anything to get very dirty, then I will let it go a day or two.

But after that, IN HE GOES, even if he doesn't stay very long.

Hello Jenn!

I apologize if I am repeating what someone else has already

posted...around 1998 laws changed about hospital stays. I was

hospitalized for 150 mCi in 1997 but not in 2001 or 2002 for the same

mCi each time.

Hang in there. It will get better. I do use sour candies in the

first few days but when the taste buds start dying, nothing tastes

good for a few weeks or so and it's no fun to eat.

If it is possible and you are really concerned--he could stay

elsewhere, but you need his support and help with things until you

feel better. You are " hottest " the first two days. I would say just

try to stay as far away as possible and have him sleep on the couch

if you have no other bedroom. Another option is if you have family

(parents) in a larger to space to go stay there.

My husband is a nuclear pharmacist and he brings home a geigher

counter to measure me. Luckily we have space in the house. I stay

on the third floor of the house for about 2 weeks and use a separate

bathroom for about 4 weeks. Part of the cautiousness is because he

gets some exposure in his job that most other spouses don't--also he

knows a lot more than most of us (myself included) about radiation.

When I first arrive home hot from an uptake, he can measure me

through the floor (from 3rd to 2nd) and knows where I am. For a day

or so he does not go directly below me. We have walkie-talkies if I

need anything.

When I have a low dose for testing scans, I sleep in a separate

bedroom (on the same floor) for 3-4 days and use the upstairs

bathroom. I don't cook or use real plates/silverware either for that

time.

He once showed me the meter reading in the bathroom, especially on

the toilet and I'm sorry to be a bit graphic--but no matter how neat

we think we are, there is splashing and the underside of the seat

gets hot. I also use disposable gloves when using the toilet and

when blowing my nose or wiping my eyes, etc. to avoid getting my

hands hot.

Good luck to you! You will feel better soon.

Jenn,

That sure is news to me that Texas changed the way they do things. It

has been 3 years since my ablation but I did stay in the hospital for 3 days

And yes, these doctors do make mistakes. I am scheduled for a whole body

scan and the radiology place called to schedule a thyroid scan. Well I

questioned the guy and he said that is what was the order. I had to call the

dr office and they confirmed the radiologist made a mistake so i had to

re-schedule and wait another 5 days for the right scan. 5 more HYPO days! So

ask questions if you think something is not right. they do make mistakes.

:

My doctor doesn't do routine WBS's either, unless the Tg comes back

elevated. However, I am quite sure that with a history of Hashimoto's and

Graves' Disease, my Tg results will not be trustworthy, and I plan to

demand a hypo scan next summer (the doctor said " You can have one if you

want one, " with a look at me as though I was nuts, but so be it). If you

want a WBS I don't see why the doctor should have a problem with it --

he's not the one who has to go hypo.

Will this be a suppressed or a hi-TSH Tg check?

Anyway, I thought monitoring by Tg was only an option if you've had both TT

*and* ablation. And Tg antibodies can make the test unreliable too.

And wouldn't your " sky-high " iodine come down over time, so you could have

ablation & /or a scan?

Hi BJ:

Here are my responses to your responses:

> Will this be a suppressed or a hi-TSH Tg check?

I'm assuming suppressed?-I just had my blood checked and my TSH was

6.7 so my endo increased my Levoxyl from 125 to 150, so 2 mo from now

the TSH should be even lower, correct?

> Anyway, I thought monitoring by Tg was only an option if you've had

both TT *and* ablation. And Tg antibodies can make the test

unreliable too.

I thought so too!!(thus my concern). I don't even know if TgAb are

an issue for me as they weren't even mentioned. I just asked for

copies of my lab reports, per the excellent advice from this group.

As I said, the nurse's statement to me suggests a possible

overreliance on my Tg level: she said that the chance that any thyca

in me is a non-Tg secreter is remote, thereby making monitoring of

the Tg levels an accurate marker...

> And wouldn't your " sky-high " iodine come down over time, so you

could have ablation & /or a scan?

It actually may take another 6 mo+ for the iodine level to lower.

(This is yet another issue for me b/c shouldn't a contrast CT have

been contraindicated when suspecting thyca?- as my case illustrates,

but my PCP ordered it anyway and of course I didn't know differently

at the time.) But the iodine level should certainly lower before

next summer, which is when my endo wants to see me next pending the

Tg results, so I don't think its a matter of him waiting for my

iodine, I think its just his particular protocol, and I'm inclined to

disagree with him!

Thanks for the response,

Hi Janie,

Sorry to hear about your Bronchial infection. Hope you are on the

mend. My ferritin level was above the normal level at about 380 but

my iron was normal. The doc was not concerned about the high ferritin

level. My cortisol came down a little on its own a few months ago,

but still a little out of normal range (high). I am shuffling around

like a 90 year old. I think I must have adrenal fatigue since I have

so little energy. I have not taking a DHEA in about 2 months so I

just took one about an hour ago. Will see if that helps.

Absolutely!! I was on Synthroid for 1 1/2 years and still had all the HypoT

symptoms. I was tired all the time, had muscle aches, got sick at my stomach a

lot, brain fog!! I am now on Armour and I am feeling better, but still have a

long ways to go. It has only been a week on Armour.

I do remember when I first started Synthroid I was sleepy and yawning, like you

mentioned, so I started taking it at night. It seemed to put me to sleep until

I got used to it, then I just had the " normal " HypoT symptoms, so it was not

much better.

How long did you try the Armour? I have a friend that is doing some natural

things and has giving up meds all together. Don't know if I could give up my

Armour, but I am willing to give some of her suggestions a try.

Hi all,

I have been on synthroid for about 2 months now. I started at 25 mcgs

and after a month went 50. I tried 75 the day before yesterday and

turned hyper. So I took 50 yesterday and since I had a problem last

night decided to take nothing today. For the last few weeks I have

felt weird in the morning, something like dizzy but just sort of head

foggy. Today I am totally wiped out. No energy. Walking like an old

man. Weird in the head. I have been yawning for about 2 weeks. Any

thoughts? Did anyone on synthroid have these problems? I tried armour

first and could not handle it.

Some of your fatigue can also simply be due to your inability to

handle much thyroid support. We have to figure out why.......

LaCretia,

I went to the Healthfood store to buy adrenals. I had a problem. The

Solray was inexpensive and had the adrenal glands but also had

Licorice. I can't take Licorice because of my blood pressure. Another

brand, much more expensive had no Licorice but is said on the bottle

the their Adrenal Extract formula will help to INCREASE cortisol. I

need my cortisol LOWER not higher. So I buy nothing. I did start up

my DHEA after a one month hiatus. I took 12.5mgs. I do feel better

today, although it could be a coincidence.

So what should I do about the adrenal suppliments?

Thanks,

,

I agree with you. I'm on treatment and can say it can be dangerous. My

doctor helps me adjust when needed and monitors things closely. Taking

cortisol is hard on the heart especially if you don't need it. It certainly

raises the blood pressure which in my case was good since it was so low. I

recall the doctor commenting " Your blood pressure looks much better " . So,

get tested and if you need it, get a doctor to help you.
