Guest guest
HI Cheri: I had some dental work one under anesthetic (because my mouth won't freeze) including a root canal then had to go back for the permanent crown. I only vaguely remember these appts even though they were only about a year ago. Anyway, I did feel a little discomfor/ pulling and pressure of it going between the existing teeth. HOWEVER, I also had the dental equivalent of phantom limb pain in that tooth - phantom dental pain (this may not be the right term, this was how it was presented to me). Anytime anything came in contact with the front of the tooth or the remaining root, mainly pressure - it was really painful. I had to put medication on it for almost a year! So, that may be why I had more discomfort. Imagine my surprise - I felt like a fool complaining about pain in a tooth that had no nerve. FOrtunately I was belived and sent to a specialist who has seen loads of people with this. But even with that, the pain wasn't awful or anything. More discomfort and pressure. I would rate having my teeth cleaned as worse than the crown stuff. I also cannot open my mouth all the way and have major problems with my facial muscles being uncooperative because of my TMJ surgery but in spite of these, it wasn't bad. I was surprised that neither appt was terribly long and he only went in and out of my mouth a few times. I am one of these people who gets totally creeped out by dental noises and assorted " stuff " . I could never be conscious and have a tooth out. Ick. I could watch surgery, manage cardiac arests, massive bleeding and stuff at work but, ooooooh no dental stuff <shiver> . I had a really bad experience as a kid and think this is what caused this. LOL. SO, given that, if I 'm saying it wasn't too bad... Hope this helps. Good luck Joyce
