Another way to get Magnesium into your child is by simply giving them Epsom Salt baths. You can buy Epsom Salts in any grocery store or drug store. Try 1 to 1-1/2 cups per bath, and encourage him to stay in and play or soak as long as possible. The magnesium in the salts should provide a calming effect. It contains sulfur, which, due to Phenol Sulfur Transferase (PST) deficiency in many ASD children, can also be helpful. This supplement acts as an anti-inflammatory, and may be worth looking into. You can give him 400 -500 mg. per day. It comes in tablets that are very soft, and can easily be crushed into a fine, tasteless powder that you can hide in food. Guest guest
Dear , Hi. I just read your post regarding your son's improvements after stopping the Super-Nu-Thera and DMG. I have no experience with DMG, BUT I can also say that my son has improved after I stopped his Super-Nu-Thera. So much so that we do not include this in his vitamin therapy anymore. His teachers told me he actually was less " antsy " and was able to sit better. I have recently gone to a nutritionist and she feels that the Super-Nu-Thera is too " high octane " for some kids. My son is still doing vitamin therapy but not at the same high levels that are present in the Super-Nu-Thera. I hope this helps! ne

Guest guest
Look at the ingrediants in Supernutherma..There are other liquid supplements available without certain additives.. The concept is good..I'm personally not a believer in that particular one.. Vitamins are good..but you need to see what else is in the product.. Look. JB No flames to those it works for...just my humble opinion..considering my son is allergic to corn as well..I also avoid all sugars whenever humanly possible b/c they feed the yeast... Guest guest
has to have a blood test that requires him to be off all non essential meds and supplements for a few days. Since I feel everything he takes is essential, I only stopped the DMG and the superNuthera. Since doing this he is much more talkative and has had almost no tantrums. He's also listening to me and doing everything I say??? He is however, very hyper. I know this must somehow be related to stopping the supplements, but how? The weird thing is a few weeks ago when I increased his DMG he got very hyper but noncompliant. Any feedback? OT - you will all be envious - I am enjoying a relaxing, quiet snow day as got snowed in at my mom's after his sleepover last night. I, too, want to wish all of you a very happy new year. I am very thankful for this wonderful and informative group of new friends. We should try to have more dinners where we can share our stories with moms who totally understand where we are coming from.
Guest guest
DMG may be causing the hyper behavior. If you add folate or switch to TMG this might help. Also, I think I remember on the autism-mercury list they said TMG chelates arsenic, but to stop TMG/DMG while chelating mercury. Something to do with increased methylation, which is not good when mercury is floating around. You could search the archives for more info. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice about supplements. The SuperNuthera does have flavorings in it, I think I am going to switch back to Thorne's Basic Nutrients for a multivitamin. About the DMG - the strange part is that he is incredibly hyper since stopping it. He is talking more and following more directions, but he's wild. I'm wondering how this hyperactivity relates to stopping these two supplements. > Look at the ingrediants in Supernutherma..There are other liquid supplements > available without certain additives.. > > The concept is good..I'm personally not a believer in that particular one.. > > Vitamins are good..but you need to see what else is in the product.. > > Look. > > JB > > No flames to those it works for...just my humble opinion..considering my son > is allergic to corn as well..I also avoid all sugars whenever humanly > possible b/c they feed the yeast... Guest guest
Taper off any supplement rather than dropping it quickly. Taking away any water soluble vitamin " cold turkey " MAY lead to a rebound effect resembling a deficiency. This was documented for Vit C megadoses, where the people briefly got scurvy. We're playing with powerful stuff.
