On the issue of Omega 3

I have read a lot about fats. Omega 3 oil is in the category that some

people are saying that we are not getting enough anymore, in contrast

to the other fats that are more abundant in our diet these days,

especially the saturated fats and hydrogenated and partially

hydrogenated fats, found in so many processed foods these days. The

theory behind the Omega 3 and other " good " fats goes something like

this. The different fats get converted to different compounds in our

bodies, and we need a balance of these compounds, and therefore a

balance of the fats. The claim is that the Omega 3 fats get converted

to compounds that are ANTI-inflamatory. Since I had been diagnosed

(incorrectly) with Rheumatoid Arthritis for years, and had joint and

muscle pain, I tried to increase my Omega 3. I had some relieve from

some of my joint/muscle problems, but honestly don't know if it was the

Omega 3 or other changes that I made. But, in the process of reading

about Omega 3, I was convinced that it is generally a good thing to do,

to increase Omega 3 oils. Many aritcles in the Prevention type

magazines are now speaking more and more about it. My source is

flaxseed OIL, bought directly as oil. It is more convenient than the

seeds for me usually. I happen to buy a brand called Barleans. Their

website is www. barleans.com. There are other brands of flaxseed oil

also, sold in dark bottes in the refrigerated section of the health

food stores. Also, if you want to use the flaxseeds themselves, they

can be ground up nicely in a coffee grinder. Barleans also sells the

ground seeds. I think it is worth using, if not for mito, then for

general health.

Thank you all for sharing so much on this site. I find you willingness

to share and kindness to others truly remarkable.

Hi Sunny,

I have done alot of research on Flaxseed and have to agree with you , that

the Barleans brand is the best out there, in my opinion anyway.!! And they

have a wide variety of choices.

I use the seeds and grind them up in the coffee grinder and sprinkle them on

top of my oatmeal everyday. They are really tasty.
