Guest guest
Hi Kris Sorry we missed your question earlier. I don't know the answer to the first question about the meaning of the size of the uterus. I would imagine that fbroids would increase it's size but I don't know much about this subject. If the ultrasound hasn't picked up fibroids, I'm guessing you had an ultrasound for a reason like symptoms that were being investigated or something about a pregnancy. Typical fibroid symptoms may indicate fibroids, but they may also be symptoms associated with other gynaecological problems. So it may be that you don't have fibroids but you have (whatever) condition instead. General Women's health books, such as Miriam Stoppard's, are handy for seeing what symptoms are connected to which problems. In the UK local libraries often have these books and charity shops are also worth a look, as the most cost effective option. High street bookshops stock these too. If you see your doctor first then it will save you a lot of time and worry to ask her directly what she thinks is going on with your gynaecological health and what could or definitely don't have. Fibroid symptoms vary from person to person with some ladies getting the worst of it and others unanware they even had fibroids. Some of us have no symptoms, others a few and others seemingly all the worst ones! Some typical fibroid symptoms include: *Frequent urination or urination problems, perhaps at nights *Bowel problems * Aches or even pains around the abdomen or perhaps other areas * Lower back ache * Pain associated with intercourse * Tiredness * Anaemia from losing too much blood from heavy periods * Flooding or heavy periods, maybe with clots * Periods that don't seem right in their regularity or duration * A bloated looking stomach and maybe even a pregnant look for some women * Some women can feel their fibroid locations and others can't. * Anything I forgot or got wrong (I'm no doctor) Some conditions the doctor may consider when patients have gyaecological symptoms (not neccessarily in your case) include: Fibroids Adenmyosis Endometriosis Polyps Ovarian Cysts Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Pelvic Inflammatory disease/infections Cancer Pregnancy whatever else It all depends on your situation and conversation you had with the GP. For suspected fibroid cases they may have formed ideas from your answers to questions, the results of smear and/or swab tests, blood tests, a physical internal and external examination and an external or internal ultrasound.
