Hi there... I'm new to this group, and recently (~ 2 months ago) diagnosed with

diabetes.

I feel increadibly lucky that my wife and 5 1/2 year old daughter are both

very supportive of my diet. Before I learned *anything* about how to use diet

to start to control my diabetes, I knew that I wanted to limit sugar and was

reading labels to minimize that. Next thing I knew, my *daughter* figured this

out and will now read the labels and tell me which one has less sugar! (At this

point, she's also learning about looking at carbs, sodium, etc.)

Welcome -

I just had a moment of <big sigh> from family when I chose to eat my

hamburger on a hot dog bun instead of the hamburger bun. I read the

packages and obviously chose the one with less carbs. Four of the

family members that were eating around me are diabetic also (on my Dh's

side) - and they all eat and drink what they want - but they are all on

some type of diabetic medicine. I am trying to stay OFF the meds as

long as I can - which I think is healthier. Am I correct?

And they tease me because I only drink ice water - they want me to try

diet soda. But even if there are no calories, caffeine or sugar - it is

still a chemical.
