Hi ,

You mentioned that your docs and ped haven't mentioned delays, and I

think that is to be expected. Some docs don't support banding at all,

and insist a child's head will round on its own - but most of us here

know that is not the case. There is some literature linking the

untreated plagio with delays (Becky posted links yesterday) but as far

as I know it is not conclusive. It is more that there is some evidence

of a linkage, and if it is even a possible link, parents want to fix

things while they can.

Also on this board there have been a number of parents who have

children with delays, and they are asking if it is plagio related. Of

course I can't say it is or it isn't, but it is a real concern. There

is also a cosmetic concern - which should not be dismissed. All of us

want the best for our children. I guess it is like braces - untreated

crooked teeth may/may not cause jaw problems later, but most people

wear braces so they look better when they come off.

Children's Hospital in Boston and diagnosed with moderate

plagiocephaly - 12 mm - and we were told that we did not have to get a

helmet and that if we did it would be for PURELY cosmetic reasons. We

did get one, but I keep reading posts about developmental delays, but

no doctors - including my son's pedi have said a THING about

developmental issues. I also have read a few studies that have been

done and there seem to be alot of other factors involved. I don't

undersand where all of this concern about delays is coming from. Have

doctors told you point blank thatif you don't correct this then there

will be issues? And if so, what range were your children in? I'm

having a hard time with this. I think the developmental comments are

unfounded. You can't jump from one to the other so quickly.
