Guest guest Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Hi Jeanne, What a wonderful idea! Sorry that it has taken me so long to get to this. I live in San Leandro. I had my surgery at the Richmond Kaiser - Dr. Baggs was my surgeon. I received my approval in June of '03. My first consultation with Dr. Baggs was on Aug. 28 and my Orientation was on Sept. 11. I reached my 10% pre-surgery weight loss goal on Nov. 21 and had my surgery 10 days later - on Dec. 1, '03. I was very fortunate to escaped most of the co-morbidities that plague the morbidly obese - even though I was " Super Morbidly Obese. " Failing mobility was my biggest problem. I literally dragged myself into Dr. Baggs office on crutches. My journey thus far has continued to be blessed - I was only in the hospital 16 hours after I got out of surgery and I have had no complications greater than the need to add iron supplements to my daily vitamin regime. My high weight was 375 lb. - that's a BMI of 70.9 on my 5' 1 " frame. My current weight is 150 lb. - that a BMI of 28.3. That BMI puts me still in the upper range of the " over-weight " category - but my body fat % is down into the teens so I don't think that I'm going to lose much more until I have reconstructive surgery. Just FYI - a body fat % of 20-24% is the " fitness " category for women; >24 to32% is acceptable. I don't know what my highest body fat % was . . . it was over 50% and 50% was the highest the scale would go. Other info: I am 55 years old; married (my husband, Bob, is a wonderfully supportive man). No children. Five cats. The Renaissance Faire is a big part of my life and my group there has become my " family. " I love to read and to garden. I suffer from Clinical Depression that has often caused me to isolate myself, but I am getting out into the world much, much more these days. This group has been a godsend for me. Take care, Kay in San Leandro open RNY 12/1/03 topazmisskitty wrote: > > Good Morning All, > > Some of us are new around here, like me and I thought it would be > great to have a sort of introduction so for me at least I can keep > track.
