Guest guest
Cheryl, it is scary. I have a friend who has diabetes. She lost her leg at the knee due to gangrene, but there was also a big time blood infection and she fought for her life for two months. It was a touch and go. She was in the hospital for 9 months, including rehabilitation. You know 9 months you have to be incredibly sick and she was. She needs day nurses as she cannot do anything herself. Well, her insurance maxed out, so they threw her out of rehabilitation, and so on, and so on. You can probably imagine. She does have medicare or medicaid (I don't know which), but whatever she has does not cover her medication which is $700 a month. Thank goodness she was always a financial consious person, but her life savings are diminishing each month between not working and paying for medication. We really don't know how old she is, she never discloses her age, but must be in her late 50s. Can you imagine? She may have a long, long time to go, on very little money left. When it comes to care for the sick and the poor the system stinks. Mojo Re: regarding doctors for Mojo Hi Mojo, Your story is very disturbing. You know I once had a nurse tell me that people went to the hospital to die. That the doctors and nurses didn't care anymore. I couldn't believe what she said to me! I know the care one gets in the hospital is lacking from personal experience. My husband spent a several days in the hospital after major surgery. If I wasn't there with him he wouldn't have gotten the things he needed. I would have to go and find a nurse or a doctor for him. I had to leave my husband for an evening so I could get some rest myself and when I returned the next morning, my husband was on his feet! ready to leave. He said he couldn't get anyone to respond to him for hours after I left. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here "The LUPIES Store" Come check out our store...http://www.cafepress.com/thelupies"The LUPIES Web Page"http://www.itzarion.com/lupusgroup.html"The LUPIES online photo albums!"
