Guest guest
Hi Guys, As usual, I had a tough time allowing the kids to do the camp thing, but after seeing those faces of pure utter joy come running off that bus when they returned and a 21/2 hour drive home from the MDA office where they hardly took a breath telling us all about their adventures, I am soooooo grateful to Dr. Boles and his staff and all of you for the encouragement to let them go!!!!! I will be able to enjoy the time next year for sure I think. Hey if there are any moms out there who are still debating this, don't!!!! Let them go!!!!!! My three kids had the absolute time of their lives! You will struggle this first time, but I totally recommend it and besides the group was right here for me to hold my hand through it all and will be here for you! They the MDA staff, were more than prepared to meet their needs, I sent half of my cupboards to insure that they ate every 2-3 hours and they came back with most of it because the camp was so well stocked and prepared to meet their needs. said Mom every time I turned around someone was making sure I had eaten or went to take my meds or took my nap, my counselor liked that part about me he said, LOL. Even my little 8 year old who cried when I dropped her off, has yet to stop talking about her camp experiences. They can't wait to leave for Camp Dream Street next week! I am sure it will be hard still since it is the first time at this camp as well, but I was more than impressed with MDA and their organization and just the whole thing. The camp was staffed with Marines and Navy personnel and has yet to stop talking about the Camouflage Hunt they had out in the field. The military personnel dressed in their fatigues and hid in the field grass and the kids had to go out and find them without getting captured and becoming a POW. did the hunt partly in his wheel chair because he got tired. just thought it was so cool!!!!LOL Of course the pool was a huge hit as well, and the craft room, I am sporting 3 very cool camp made candles in my living room at the minute! LOL Thanks to all who have been my support through the first time camp Mom experience! But like everyone has said, MDA camp was the best for the kids and they didn't freak when I couldn't stand it and called! LOL All this to say to those still on the fence, LET THEM GO! The kids loved it! Mine are 14, 11, and 8 years old. We are all looking forward to going to DREAM STREET in just a week here. HUGS! Guest guest
, You have just written a report on MDA camp that echoes everything I've read from other parents after their children with Mito spent a week away enjoying the fun of being just like everyone else. That's what MDA camp is all about and it is a wonderful benefit for the kids but also a very good rest time for the parents who with love, great personal sacrifices and a lot of heartbreak and stress live with this chronic disease 24/7. I'm so glad they had a great time but didn't expect otherwise. You'll have to tell us about Ca Dream Street too. Alice Thanks to all who have been my support through the first time camp Mom experience!
