Guest guest
oohhhh... so many of you remember when my cows get out and I get to chase them. Running from them and after them gets sooo old!!! so.... Since I had the baby, and was unable to chase cows all day long, we sold them all. All except for the bull. He is in the freezer. All 600 pounds of him (well, less the stuff we ate or the 20 pounds given to elderly family members). He sure tastes good!!! Its even worth the visions of his face when I cook him up! haha! then I think about all the stress caused! and that makes him taste better! I love grass fed home grown meat! He is all natural!! no shots, no antibiotics in his food, and most of his food was grown right here =) Its a good feeling knowing that I dont need to worry about that at the grocery! Now... for the chickens... I swear that they think of how to get out of the fencing daily... Just like on that Movie Chicken Run! (if you havent seen it, watch it... sooooo funny!!!) I am hopefully going on Friday evening to get a horse. She is wild... =) was a rescue and the lady has had her for 6 months and dosnt know what to do with her. 3 years old... Going to be lots of work for me!!! Need to get fence built before she gets here... =) Angelia in OR who is VERY active on her farm... Guest guest
, I got a chuckle out of the first few lines here - " He is in the freezer " just made me giggle. I have had horses since I can remember - use to breed quarter horses (I have minis now - I call them my midgets) - but we tried raising a cow and calf once - I just could not eat them so we sold them for less than we bought them for after fattening them up! I somehow can't eat something I've looked in the eyes, named and fed every day. However, I will say that now, a few years later, I would really love a home grown, grass fed cow in my freezer! Let us know how the wild horse works out for you and you can always email me private for horsey info - they are my sanity, my love and I love to chat about them. Sandy No more stress about cows... =) oohhhh... so many of you remember when my cows get out and I get to chase them. we sold them all. All except for the bull. Guest guest
Sandy, When my folks had a farm we had a firm rule: no naming anything we were going to eat. However that lasted less than one summer, then we were out calling bacon, eggs, t-bone, etc. - after that mom gave up on us naming the critters as long as we didn't use people names. Beth ps. we also had duck soup & quackers, but they actually were pets - sort of - used them to de-bug the garden.
