I had one last year. It was the first dental work I've had done except for a

few fillings when I was a teenager.

I don't want to worry you, but it was torture for me. My dentist couldn't keep

me numb. He ended up having to give me numbing meds every 3 minutes to get it

done. You will have a temp crown for a week or 2, then you go back in for your

perm crown. That wasn't bad - getting it changed. But, he just put temp glue

on it cause he wasn't sure if I needed a root canal or not. Well, I still have

the temp glue on. It's been over a year. He said if it isn't causing me any

problems, then it's ok.

I had some work done a couple months ago. I'm starting to crack my teeth. He

had to fix one old filling, and file down some of my other teeth. He gave me

xanax to take the night before, then again in the morning, then again 1 hour

before my appt. That worked great. He also used another numbing med. I didn't

feel a thing this time, and almost fell asleep in the chair.

I had nitris (sp?) both times. It didn't help the first time, but it did the

2nd time.

He put a rolled up towel under my neck, and I put my knees up to keep the lower

back pain at a minimum. The xanax helped to relax me so that I didn't have

trouble with the neck and back pain.

You may not want to take meds, but I found this was the only way I could get

through it.

Good luck.
