Guest guest Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Hi, this is Tucson Kitty. When I married , 2000, I moved to a small town in northern Mn and called the local churches and found a ladies gruop that sounded good, they sewed quilt strips and make them into quilts for charities. i felt awkward, but went, made some friends. And I did the same thing when i moved to AZ. Now I belong to a book group, a quilting group at church, a Bible study group, and I volunteer at a homeless shelter 3 times a wk for 3 hrs and feed the people. I think that's what Bruce was trying to get at in his email-post. We can meet people in some new ways and make friends and it helps us a lot, I take my mind off myself and this damned diabetes for awhile. Today i went to the library and looked at another book group, to fill some more time and meet more people. I want a piece of German chocolate cake so badly I could scream! And so i am going to make a pot of coffee instead, add some coconut flavoring, a dash of heshey's choc syrup and some fat free whipped cream. If there is anything not good in this, tough. better than eating that cake that is frozen in my freezer, haha. Stay with this group, we're a rag-tag bunch of fols, we all mean well, and tell us about some of the books you are reading. I would love to swap book titles with you. Tucson Kitty, who has another date on Saturday eve, to have early dinner and then go to church! See, if you sign off, you'll never know if I get married again! Haha! Bruce/apology Ok folks, I've been thinking and have realized that I need to post this. I posted that email really fast and wasn't thinking when I did. I was hurt and angry. I want to publicly apologize to Bruce and the rest of you for posting a private email. I was wrong for doing that. Chalk it up to stress if you like, but still, it was wrong and I'm sorry Bruce. It will never happen again, I can promise you that! Now can we start over? Pretty please? If this post goes through, then my unsubscribe didn't go through. And Bruce, I'm truly sincerely sorry to have upset you and I excepted your apology in private email. Thank you! PS: We all need a hug, so hugs! Guest guest Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 I agree, it is a lifelong change for us all. Take it a step at a time. And for anyone who can't get out to walk, go to the library and take out an execise video with a walking theme. I love it, on days I can't get out because it's too cold, haha, in Tucson, or too rainy, haha, or I just don't want to go outside and walk, I walk with the video. And read, test, learn what works for you. You don't need to invest in books, if you can't afford it, go to the library. You don't need to join a gym if you can't afford it, rent a video on exercise. You don't need to buy expensive food, I actually spend LESS now, as I don't buy junk food. It gets to be fun to get on the scale and see it keep going down. If you only lose 1/2 lb a wk, so what? At the end of the month, you'll be 2 lbs less. And 2 lbs times 12 months equals 24 lbs less! Go for it! And as for eating habits being learned while growing up, well, I think we are all adults here. Just because no one told ud not to smoke as kids doesn't mean we haven't learned as adults that it is a bad idea. Same with eating. If we teach our kids at home to eat well or don't teach them, as adults it is our own responsiblity to learn what is healthy. We all know that we should eat healthy and exercise and not smoke, and get enough sleep, but we are human and we are also lazy sometimes or we have stress like a husband with 2 major surgeries and a terminal diagnosisi of cancer. we all have problems. I over ate and ate the wrong foods when was ill because of stress, loneliness, anger over him having cancer. Cancer kills many people because it is caught too late and no matter what they do, it's too late. Diabetes is different. We all have a chance to change habits and make improvements in our lives. Sorry, but after watching my husband have 3 yrs of cancer and die, I'll take diabetes, hands down. And we can be supportive of everyone here because we all care about each other. We know how scary it is at first. OK, It's also scary afterwards, haha. But it's a fight we have some chance of winning. Let's all pull together here, we are a neat group, lots of differing opinions, which makes it interesting. Tucson Kitty, where we have a 30% chance of rain tomorrow! YAY! No rain since last November, at least. And it is cloudy! YAY! Re: Bruce/apology Hi , I don't know if this will work for you, but it did for me. . . .so, I shall share. Quote
