To my knowledge an active band applies a mild pressure to the

prominent regioins of the skull redirecting growth to the non

prominet regions which the helmet leaves an open space for. A

passive helmet is a symetrical shape that the skull will grow into

and take on that shape. Passive helmets are usually for young

infants I believe. In Edmonton I am pretty sure you are getting an

active helmet. Children can be treated successfuly well past the

age of 12 months although it is ideal to treat them much sooner.

Different helmet providers have varying opinions on this matter. Our

son had his doc band from 14 - 18 months with substatial correction

and he has another doc band now from 21 - 25 months. We are hoping

for more correction.
