Guest guest
My biopsy is scheduled for two months from now -- and I have been taking a vitamin cocktail. I haven't heard back from the doctor's office and I can't get an answer as to when I should discontinue taking supplements (as to not interfere with the biopsy or lab results). Just for reference -- how far in advance had most of you who have been through this, stopped taking the vitamin cocktail? Were you asked to stop taking ALL vitamins or are carnitor and CoQ10 the only ones that they are usually concerned with? Maggie
Guest guest
Maggie I was asked to be off all supplements and whatever meds I could do without for a month before the biopsies. They did want me to take the aspirin (for thinning blood) up until 5 days before. I hope they get with you to let you know when they want you to stop them. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 19 May 2004 19:03:31 -0000 > To: > Subject: vitamin cocktail/biopsy > > My biopsy is scheduled for two months from now -- and I have been > taking a vitamin cocktail. Guest guest
I recall that they asked about specific vitamins and supplements, and at the time I was tested, I was only taking a high iron multi-vitamin and acidophilus supplements. So I was able to stay on those. I think they mentioned if I was taking CoQ10 and carnitine, I would have had to stop them. I was tested in Atlanta. Another thing to remember is to not eat garlic for a few days before surgery, it can be a blood thinner too. I'd keep trying to contact the office. One trick is to fax a message to the doctor, sometimes people pay more attention to a piece of paper than a phone message. My understanding is that 30 days off the medications would be more than enough time, BUT, I recall them also saying that they will do the testing while someone is on CoQ10 and carnitine IF they are really really incapacitated without it. Take care, RH > Maggie > > I was asked to be off all supplements and whatever meds I could do without > for a month before the biopsies. Guest guest
That's really good info. My first thought was to stop everything two months prior- just to be safe, but I think I'll fax that question over to them.
