Guest guest
Well, I was not terribly impressed when I attempted to book a room for the conf, the only one remotely close to me in years to find ALL BUT ONE ROOM BOOKED. Five months in advance. I asked did they not have a large block booking for the conf. Apparently somewhere the planning failed as not a large enough block was booked. We did lots of large confs both locally and sent people away through work and I have never seen an entire block booking gone MONTHS before the event and then nothing else available in the entire hotel. The only room was July 15- 18 and I asked, where after a few days on the road with a 20 hour drive, would I be staying the night of the 14th. When you have hardly any energy and will be lucky to even get there, only a fool would exhaust themselves by unloading into one hotel then moving the next morning. I think not. Sure fire way for me to sit through the conf like a zombie because I'm too tired to think straight. If I am paying $150/ night Cdn to stay it will bloody well be at the hotel everyone else is at or I'll stay home. Sounds like something wasn't as well planned as it should have been. So anyone, thinking they can call with a reasonable notice as one usually would for pretty well any conference - SURPRISE!!!!!! I would not be incurring added transportation expenses between hotels when others do not or be jolting around on any sorrt of public transit. All that is on the EDNF website is one sentence about the date - no schedule, no speakers list, no nothing. Nothing that would cause anyone who has never been to a conf to even remotely expect at such an early date, not to be able to book a room. Most people would want to see an itinerary or speakers list before deciding to attend a conference. Not that it matters because now I don't expect to be going. I am very SEVERELY disappointed. I had decided last night to try to go even though I will have to go about $3000 in debt to afford it. I have enough life ins to pay everything off when I croak. I almost can't even worry about money anymore. And if people can't be accomodated so far in advance, I would suggest finding another location. If the hotel has no rooms beyond the block at this early date, don't give them our business! JOyce
Guest guest
Oooooh.... I don't have words.... If this is the only place the conference can be, I don't know how I could do that... I am not sure if I could handle having to stay another place, not being able to go to my room for a rest in between etc.... I can't believe that many have already booked. That means we all are in trouble... What a bummer... If this is totally right, it is awful... I know that Sue and many others have worked sooo hard on this conference. I am copying this mail to her, to make sure she gets it early today, so she can check into this. If this is the case, I really hope it could be possible to find another hotel. With the physical shape most of us are in, we really need to live at the hotel the conference is at. Also, for me this is also a huge financial challenge. To have to have additional costs getting back and forth to the hotel maybe twice a day, well.... I really don't know what to say, I am so shocked.... Sue, can you please check this out? If it is the case, can you find another hotel for the conference? We need to be able to be together. Heck, that is a huge part of the conference... I think that is much more important than staying at such a nice hotel...
