Guest guest
wasn't the old diabetic dietary exchange system best? A balance of fat, carbs, proteins....? I believe weight watchers is now using it though calling it something different. Vivian
Guest guest
Hi this is Bug in Michigan. I also got my dx's at U of M (Mitochondrial Myopathy and Lupus) and that's where all of my docs are currently. I live in Ann Arbor. As Laurie said, not everyone can be on the same diet with mito. Each person responds differently and therefore even the docs won't likely give you a specific diet to conform to. For a few people with very clear-cut difficiencies certain diets definately work. For the rest of us it's trial and error. Generally, a balanced diet is best with moderate carbs throughout the day. Don't cut short on carbs but you don't want those to be all sugar and fat either. I would highly recommend you do a little internet searching and read up on the different types of carbs and how they work in your system. That was of great help to me. Keep in mind too that your body goes through changes monthly and when you have infections or other stress. Your dietary needs may likely change during those times too.
