I have not been on line lately, but I saw your post and wanted to

respond. I have been taking compounded thyroid medication for about

4 years now. It has helped me a lot. When I first started taking

it I knew nothing about mito diseases. I just knew that my

temperature was very low, my metabolism slow and I was very sick.

It helped me enough that I was able to go back and finish my degree,

and start working. I was doing really well on it and I think I would

have continued to do so, but I had a lot of trouble with my heart.

Anyway, compounded thyroid medicine is T-3 in a time release

substance. T-3 is the form of thyroid hormone that is actually used

by the cells in the body. It is the 'thermostat' for the

mitochondrial energy system. The thyroid gland produces mostly T-4

and it is then converted to the more useable form of T-3. Sometimes

there is a problem with that conversion process. You might want to

look at wilsonsyndrome.com it explains it better than I can. It

also has a mail order pharmacy for the med's if you can't find one

locally.
