Guest guest
I don't know who first posted but was looking at one of the replies and remembered something. There is a Scooter Store (I think that is their actual name) that does a lot of TV advertising and makes a claim like if we can't get Medicare to cover it, we will. Something along those lines. May be worth checking in to. I know when the time comes, there is no way with my shoulders and fatigue that I could do anything with a manual chair. I expect others with EDS find themselves in the same boat. I had hoped I could get something like a Toyota MAtrix that a scooter might partially disassemble and fit into but no luck. I can't afford a van, nor would I want one. Has anyone ever come across a scooter that can easily be taken apart and say, fit in an average trunk. I am probably going to get an Echo. Guest guest
You're right, Joyce, and I believe it's Cindy trying to get this covered. I also think it's Hoveround that's the one that advertises this. Their homepage is http://www.hoveround.com This is what they state: Up to 80% If you have a legitimate mobility need and you qualify,* Medicare will pay up to 80% of the cost of a Hoveround power wheelchair. To qualify for Medicare payment you must meet the following guideline: 1. You would be confined to a bed or chair without the use of a wheelchair, and 2. Your condition is such that a wheelchair is medically necessary, but you are unable to operate a manual wheelchair, and 3. You are capable of safely operating the controls of a power wheelchair. Its easy, a quick phone call is all it takes to find out if you qualify. We will take care of all the paperwork and even call your doctor for you. Call now! 1- Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Joyce As a matter a fact YES! There is a new scooter out that is 'collapsible'. It breaks up into 3 parts and folds down and fits into the trunk of a car and the heaviest thing weighs 30lbs. I saw this advertised in a few catalogues @ the drs office. I don't know how comfortable it would be for you though and its pricey for me at least at $1695 Anyone else try one of these things? http://www.planetmobility.com/store/scooters/noboundaries/featherlight / Hope that helps! -Rhea

Joyce Joyce - I've seen one at a parking lot but unfortunately, didn't think to ask the person what brand is was.... It was actually a wheelchair that came a part and had a battery with it... I remember the frame was bright pink! Wish I had asked the husband that day as it was for his wife Bonnie
